Thank you all so much for an amazing, fun summer of swimming. We are so proud of how well our team competed yesterday. Grant won by a land slide!

Tomorrow swimmers can come have a fun day from 9 -10, where they can pick up any medals or ribbons they received.
If there is a problem please be in contact with Amy Mae, Ross or Lauren. I will be out of town for the next two weeks.

Also a child left his or her sweatshirt at practice on Thursday. If it is your sweatshirt please email me ASAP.

Potluck

Remember the Swim Team family potluck tonight at 5:30 pm in Grant Park!

Tomorrow please be to city at 8 am. If you are late you will be replaced in the relays.

If there are any 9 or 10 year old girls who are not in a relay and want to swim up with 11 & 12 year old girls in a relay that would be greatly appreciated. If your swimmer wants to participate let me know asap! We have had some swimmers drop out of the meet messing up a few of the girls relays.

Bring LOTS of water tomorrow it will be a hot one!

Turn right to merge onto I-84 E/U.S. 30 E toward Portland Airport/The Dalles

Take exit 16 for 238th Dr toward Wood Village

Turn right onto NE 238th Dr

Continue onto NE 242nd Dr

Turn left onto SE Stark

Turn right at NE Kane Drive

Turn Left at NE 17th Street

Turn left into Aquatic Center parking area (just past the soccer fields).

Schedule for our final week!

We are in our final week of swim team for the summer.
Here are the list of events/ schedule for our final week

Monday, Practice
Tuesday Practice
Wednesday, 7am Practice
8am Team Waffle Breakfast (bring a topping to share!) & Making crafts for city & info about City
9am Practice
Thursday, Practice
Friday, Practice – last official day of practice
5:30 PM, End of the season Potluck. Bring food to share. We will be handing out awards.

Saturday, 8 am be at Mount Hood Community College, Warm ups begin
Parade @ 9:30
Meet Officially starts @ 10 am. This does not mean show up at ten. Swimmers must be at the pool at 8 am. There are 100 grant swimmers swimming and we need to get them organized and answers any pressing questions. If your swimmer is not there on time will will replace he or she in their relay.
Please check to make sure your swimmers have signed up for the correct events

If your swimmer is signed up for a Free Style Relay please make sure you can stay to participate in the relay. If you leave before the relay you are letting down three other swimmers who want and are ready to swim, as well as the team. If you need to leave early please let me know and I will make other arrangements.

Monday, August 22 – Fun day from 9-10 am medal handouts.

Hello Parents, SSL Fans and Families,

This weekend at the third dual meet, you will have the opportunity to purchase fan page ads for your swimmers where you can show your support and enthusiasm for your swimmers in a message that will be printed in the heat sheet at the city meet. Ads cost $2 and are limited to 30 words. Officials will sell and collect the ads at the third dual meet, so bring $2 and come prepared! Show your support for your swimmers through an ad and support SSL!

Example: “Joey, GOOD LUCK today! We are so proud of you. Swim fast and GO GO GO! Love, Mom and Dad”

Dual Meet/ City Reminders

Dual Meet 3
This Saturday is Dual Meet # 3 @ Grant Pool. Swimmers must be at Grant at 8 am. If you are late and the coaches can not find you for your relay, then you will be replaced. We have had trouble with people showing up on time. Please bring sharpies to write your swimmers events on his or her hand. Also please write their first initial and last name on their arm. I will put up the events the children are signed up for online @ grantsummerswimteam.wordpress.com on Friday.

Badges for City

Thursday Patrick will be taking pictures for the swimmers who are attending city. The past two years Patrick has created badges for Grant Swimmers with their picture & event #s on the back. The cost of the badges will be $3 UNLESS you have purchased a sweatshirt. If you have purchased a sweatshirt your badge is Free.

City Champs
Swimmers must sign up for the City Meet ( August 22nd @ Mount Hood CC) no later than this Friday. Please sign up ASAP.
I will put up the events the children are signed up for online @ grantsummerswimteam.wordpress.com on Friday, please double check to make sure your swimmer is signed up for the correct events. This meet will be organized with swimmers in lanes & heats in advance. I need to know ASAP if there is a mistake so I can let Rachel know my changes.
Relays will be created based on swimmers times. Due to our large swim team not everyone will be in a relay for city. We do our best to accommodate as many swimmers as possible, but some age groups we have 40 swimmers and are only allowed 2 (4 person) relays.

Sweatshirts
Sweatshirt order forms must be turned into Alex by Wednesday. Please address checks to : Alex Sutinen. We are getting Royal Blue hooded sweatshirts yth $24 – adlt $26.

Friday please bring tennis shoes we will be having dryland/ fun day!

City Championships

GRANT Swimmers must sign up for the City Championships NO LATER THAN August 4th

The City Championships are held at Mount Hood Community College on August 20th. If you sign up for the meet you are expected to attended.

HEAT SHEET COVER CONTEST

Must say somewhere “SSL City Champs: The Swim Meet of Oz”

Must somehow incorporate this summer’s theme: “The Swim Meet of Oz: Celebrating the Green City”

Must be on 11 x 8 ½ inch sheet of paper. 11 should be the length, and 8 ½ should be the width

Must be drawn with black ink for printing purposes. Make sure to write first and last name, team and age on the back so you can be recognized.

Must be created by a swimmer from SSL

Due Date: August 5^th to your coaches

Winner…will have cover on the 2011 PP&R SSL Championship Heat Sheet. They will also receive free registration for SSL for the summer of 2012.

Middle of the season notes

We are half way through the season! Dual Meet #2 was great, although we did not get to swim the Freestyle Relays, I was so proud of how our team competed. To view the complete results from the meet click here. We had 21 12 & under girls compete in the IM, 11 of which were 9 or younger. This week we will be ordering team sweatshirts. Please be on the look out for order forms. I will put more information online when the details are finalized. Clayton Smith was at our meet, check out the photographs he took of our beautiful swimmers here. Our team photo is available to purchase and download. He also put up some cute underwater photos that are available to download for FREE! As the season goes on swimmers are showing up later and later to practice, it is important for our swimmers to be present at the beginning of practice for stretches and announcements. We have found that messages such as, time of the team picture or bringing tennis shoes are not being received because swimmers are not present for stretching.

SSL Updates & more news

Fun Days : July 22, Aug 2 & Monday Aug 22

We will have 3 more Fun Days, which will occur the day before each swim meet. The one exception is the City Meet. We will have a regular practice August 19th, the Friday before City.

Fun Day Schedule: The first 15- 20 minutes we will be working on drills or doing dry land activities. Please bring tennis shoes on Fun Days.

Potluck

We will be having an end of the season Potluck Friday August 19th (which is the evening before the City Championship Meet) @ 5:30 pm. Bring Food to share.
